Thank you everybody for the super positive feedback on my latest painting, A Royal Affair,

A Royal Affair 1

and of course lovelessdevotions for the Daily Deviation. I'm really glad you guys liked it, I know it's been a while since I last submitted something.

In that regard, I am curious how you guys found out about that piece. It has a huge amount of views and it seems that a big part of that must have come from outside deviantArt...so if any of you came here that way, please comment, I'd love to know where you saw this!

(Or if this is a glitch, please inform me!)

Other than that I think I will begin to show studies and maybe sketches, but if you would like to see more of that, I strongly recommend you follow me on my instagram

That aside, I hope everybody is okay and well these days? How are you guys dealing with our beloved worldsickness? Let me know!

Much love

Daniel

So apparently it has been 8 years since I last posted a journal. Feels like a life time, even moreso on the internet. But since I just hit the 300k pageview mark I thought this
would be a good time to write a brief update. And first of all- thank you! To everybody who is still watching me and following my work, commenting or dropping by to say hello!
While overall activity on deviantArt seems to have gone down a lot and most people seem to have moved to facebook and instagram, I still check my messages here regularly, even if
I don't manage to get back to all of them.
That said, the above mentioned platforms have also become my main outlets at this point and in recent years I have developed a very regular sketchbooking habit as well as picked
up water colours, so if you guys are at all interested in seeing those things as well as getting updates on what I do otherwise, do feel free to add me on facebook and instagram
and of course ArtStation for the best quality of my work.

In general it's become more and more important to me to do personal paintings besides work and amongst other things I have developed a big interest in painting scenes from
the Middle East. Which you might have seen in my paintings Song of Seagulls and In The Midday Heat. Bear with me though. Personal work means there is no deadline and that
is both good and bad. Will try to speed up my process though!

I think that's enough for now. Do say hi and tell me what's happening with you!

Much love and thanks again
Daniel

After the previous journal entry had graced my dA profile for like a year and a half, I figured it's about time for a new one. Hopefully though my recent submissions have proved that I am indeed alive. And I can tell you that it feels good to finally have some new pieces up. Since June last year I have been working as a full time concept artist, and that left me pretty much no time for personal stuff. But I am having a great time at the job and I have learned so much and have in fact painted more than ever before. Lately I just got too fed up with having only my rather old pieces up, hence why I made the time for new ones. And I'm definitely happy that you guys are enjoying them, that's great encouragement. There are a good many more pieces in the pipeline, but I don't know yet when I will find the time to finish them.

The next couple of weeks will be rather chaotic for me and I will probably not be online much, so please don't take offense if I am not replying immediately. I will still read every comment. But life sure isn't boring these days.

Hope all of you are doing well!

So I thought it's time for a new journal! Not that I have a whole lot of meaningful stuff to say, but I thought I'd let you know that I'm still alive, haha! I have been fairly busy with uni assignments lately, lots of annoying writing and attempting to reach minimum word counts, it really is quite dull. And I am working on a commission as well. But I cannot really complain too much, I am doing well :D

And while I may not have had the time to really do a painting, I've been actively filling pages of my sketchbook with little thumbnail sketches, playing around with different ideas for sceneries and perspectives more, which is heaps of fun. Most sketches are not more than four inches wide (about ten cm), some even less, and they don't take too long :D And all done with pencils or pen, but it's ideal to stay rough. I can only recommend anyone to do that!
When I have some more time again, I will probably plough through the thumbnails and pick some which I will paint!

Also I've been meaning to do that for a while now, I wanted to plug Sangiev's King of Land contest here! It will go through several rounds, and the good entries of each round advance to the next. There seems to be a fair amount of prizes waiting at the end, too, so have a look :D

Contest: news.deviantart.com/article/72…

The deadline has been extended to April 20th, so there's plenty of time for you guys to join in

Now back to assignments :salute: How is life treating all of you? :#1:

Love you all,
Dancakes

So as some of you may have noticed, I have started to upload a bunch of speedpaintings and sketches to my scraps. mynti persuaded me to show them :giggle: That way I can show you what I do to practise, especially things like seeing colour, values and shapes, and also the important bit about not getting carried away with details, haha.
Hand in hand with that I have cleaned out my gallery and moved some old pieces to scraps, as well. More will probably follow in due time. So the gallery got categories now and probably looks tidier :D

That have been quite a few pieces at once now to kick things off. In the future it will most likely go a little slower, but I do plan an continueing to upload sketches and some speedpaintings to scraps. So if you don't want to look at all that, feel free to unwatch my scraps :giggle:

Here are some of the newly submitted pieces:

In any case, I am sorry that I haven't submitted anything major in a long while. I've had some rather annoying computer issues...the monitor burned through a good while ago, so I had to use my macbook for a good while, which isn't exactly suitable for painting. In December classes started again and I was busy with a commission, and now in January I had to find an apartment in Berlin and work on some assignments.
Tomorrow I will move into my new place and on monday it's back to classes. I will try to get internet as soon as I can, and then I think the investment in a completely new computer is due. So when that's resolved, you can expect new paintings from me. I have some stuff that I've been meaning to finish for a long time :D

How's everybody doing? :#1:

Love you all,
Dancakes
