This is kind of in the spirit of Fighting the Mountain, I know, but I am really quite enjoying the scenery. And it was a lot of fun to work in black white for a change. Hopefully it won't look too dark for you, my screen here is pretty bright. Anyway, please forgive me the uninspired title and the lack of updates, I'm just really quite busy these days. =]
Print should be up tomorrow, enjoy! Daniel Alekow www.dancakes.com
Okay after my not-too-talkative "All alone against the world" comment, I'd like to expand my opinion a bit more First of all I always recognize your work like "Hey, this one is that guy's who drew that piano and plane crashed in the side of the hill, and the one I exchanged a few words with." What I want to say here is that your work somehow radiates that they are yours and yours only. This is something admirable in my opinion and I wish every artist to accomplish this! I try to find something to critique, but it really needs an effort to do so. The only thing that got my eye is that there seem to be two light sources which may be because the clouds at the center are a bit too bright in spite that the Sun is at the upper-right part of the scenery. At the same time what I love in your works are the lighting techniques you use. They are stunning and makes my eye wander aimlessly on a virtual curve drawn between the man standing in the light, the rocks which are shining in the light, not too far from him, the clouds and the bright sky on the upper-right side. And there's the lower right side which lacks every direct light whatsoever. Obviously that is the part which catches my eye the least, and gives a true contrast to the overall left side. I also like very much how the center of the scene is shifted onto the left. Makes me want to run there to escape the shadows on the right. Perfect atmosphere! The last thing I'd like to point out is how professionally you work out the rocks. They make me stare amazed. I can make out the strokes and at the same time they are like a photograph. Oh! sorry, that was an understatement, they are more than a photograph! They are like they could tell stories. Dark and vast stories about battles of times long but forgotten. That is the impression I get when looking on you work. Very well done! Cheers, Rio.
This really made me feel something. The battles we fight and the journey we are on, is often a lonley one. But we are never really alone. Kinda why I love the game "journey"
