Sketch 001

Description

There we go, as I promised, here's something that shows what I've been doing over the past months. Basically I've done tons of sketches like that. As the date shows, this was done a few weeks back already, but I'm notoriously slow with photographing my sketches.
This was done with ink pens and markers, cold and warm grey. I did some tweaking in photoshop, fixing a few things and smoothing out some shading, plus I enhanced the whole warm / cold feeling. But otherwise that's pretty much it. Done on A4 copy paper....

Hope you guys enjoy it. I know there are some mistakes, maybe I shouldn't have eyeballed the perspective, haha. And I'm sorry for the unoriginal title...but with how many I am doing of these, if I submit any more, it'll be easier to just change the number ;P

Think I'll submit a print of that, too. Enjoy, and of course, tell me what you think!

Wahahaha, I finally have critique, so here goes. At first I wasn't really sure about the way that you drew the river, as obviously there isn't really any texture or shape. After a while though it occurs to me that if looked at in terms of the picture as a whole, the river works fairly well, especially in the very subtle waves around the rock in the center.

Overall, you did a fairly nice job of maintaining the perspective in the image. The corner of the stone wall in the right section of the picture is curved just a little bit, but enough that it's possible to view it as a product of the fortress architecture. I particularly like the sketched carvings on either side of the arch spanning the stream. On the whole, this is just a universally lovely image. It really reminds me of the conceptual art that they did for the Lord of the Rings movie. It's not overly detailed or intricate, but in a sketchy, rough sort of way I almost like this better than your digital art. It has a very natural and archaic feel to it, like the sort of thing that might have been lost for many years only to be rediscovered and put into a book somewhere of old fantasy art.

One other thing, I really like the way you did the trees. The image would have been very stark and base without them; they help the picture to cross over the edge of a sketch and become a well rounded work of art on the whole. Very well done. If I didn't know that dA takes WAY too much money from the sale, I'd actually consider buying a print.
