This piece kind of helped keeping me sane over the past weeks. Was really busy with work and even though the work stuff was quite fun, I just had to squeeze in something personal somehow. So I worked on this for little bits of time here and there. I think I like how it came out.
Also I want to apologize for the many unanswered comments. I am reading every comment and message, but I just had no time to get back to every single one. But rest assured that I really appreciate them all
Hope you guys enjoy this one as much as I do. Print will be up soon.
This is absolutely wonderful. I sat for a fair while looking at it trying to decide what exactly about it was hitting me so hard. I think a lot of it has to do with the combination of the oppressive darkness of the sky, and the mystical light in the mist rising from the lake. In most images it's very natural to light everything from above, indeed the eye is trained to see light in that way. By focusing the majority of your light in the center of the image, and even more so in the lake and the mist, you really create an epic sense of age and magic. And despite how large the rest of the landscape is around it, my eye keeps being drawn to the monolith by the lakes edge, which is perfect in keeping with the feeling in the rest of the picture.
The concept itself is one that has probably been done quite often, but you really pull off the execution and make the image definitely one of the better ones I've seen in a long time.
The colours are just wonderful. I'm really impressed, as always, how much detail you've got in your works. Just awesome. Especially how you used the light and shadows in this picture.
