yes, I did. and boy did I enjoy it. The reason for that lies in the nature of the character, though, I certainly wouldn't want to paint fan art all my life.
About two weeks ago I was browsing various visual effects news and sites and reading through a couple of articles when by chance I came by this shot of the Pirates of the Carribean movie, and I immediately felt the urge to try and paint it. I planned to just give it an hour or two to see what I could do with it, and after that time I had the picture pretty much roughed out and from there I just kept refining it, which was a lot of fun.
I don't plan to do more fan art, really, but y'know, never say never. In any case this has been a fun change from my usual scenery and landscapes, and I hope you don't mind that.
Am looking forward to the 3rd movie, I hope it will be as enjoyable as its prequels.
This said, I hope you do enjoy this piece, too, comments and critiques are welcome
Gosh did I love seeing your process, this turned out extremely well, but you know that already
The thing I love about this one is your brushwork and how you interpreted the source image. I like that some detailes dropped entirely, this really brings out the eye and pulls it into focus. You have such a beautiful variation in colors here, too...
I gave you my critiques before, and I was honest when I said at this point, I really can't nitpick anything. Even the little jaggy edgy thingie I kinnda like, even if I dun get what that is exactly
well done, dancakies!

He's a fantastic character, yea, but booooooy did he creep me out in the movie. I dunno, maybe it's the whole concept of the octopus head thing. If you had tentacles on your head, it'd probably make me squirm too. Then again, who needs hands for carrying things when you have a bazillion tentacles sitting there all ready to carry stuff. They're certainly strong enough and because of the suction cups, they wouldn't drop 'em either.
I love the colours you've used in here (yea, I see some purple in there! ) and how you've used 'em. I dunno, I would've blended in the few darker strokes on the right nearest his hat, but it's nothing really, just personal preference. Super texture you have here, dude. I'm impressed.
I like how you kept the warm colors sort of limited to one area, that seems to work. And the skin seems to really have the luminous, translucent quality of real skin. The eyes look good also, and the the way your focal point is tighter than the other areas -- all in all some nice work with the mouse, or tablet, whichever.

Of course I don't mind when you do fanart. The fact that you're doing art at all makes me a very happy person, as usual.
I love it. You capture the slimy feel of the character very nicely. This picture has such utterly wonderful texture, it's spot on to the way that he looks in the second movie.
More than anything else, I adore the detail around the eyes, in the lines and creases. There's a level of humanity where there wouldn't seem to be any, that really goes well with the character.
And of course, the rest of the picture is absolutely fabulous.
Very well done indeed, and sorry that this isn't as in depth as you might have liked.

I may not be able to produce it, but by god I can tell you you're doing it wrong.
